10 Things to Do in Seaside, Florida

Posted on July 10, 2019February 5, 2020 by admin

If you’re looking for a charming beachside town filled with things to do, places to eat, gorgeous beaches and streets to wander, look no further than Seaside, Florida. This iconic town, located on Highway 30A, has become a vacation hotspot on the Florida panhandle. People come from all over to stay in the colorful cottages and visit this picturesque town.

You may even recognize this town from Jim Carrey’s movie, “The Truman Show” from the 90’s.

I was able to visit Seaside twice this year during two different weekend getaways and I still can’t get enough. Although Alys Beach is my favorite 30A town (read more about Alys here), Seaside has so much more to do! It is filled with some of the cutest shops, some really yummy restaurants, food trucks galore, heck even the bathrooms are adorable!

Yes, that is the bathroom. Excuse me, I need to go use the restroom. Brb.

Here are my top 10 suggestions for things to do in Seaside.

1. BUT FIRST, COFFEE

Start your day with coffee or tea and a fresh baked pastry from Amavida Coffee in Seaside. They have multiple locations along 30A but this one is located in the heart of town and it’s the best way to begin a day of exploring. They roast their own coffee and even though I ordered a tea every time I went, I will say the coffee smelled AMAZING!

2. FOOD TRUCKS ARE LIFE

One of the things that Seaside is known for is it’s abundance in food trucks. It doesn’t matter what you’re in the mood for: sweet or savory, hot or cold, they have a food truck to satisfy your cravings! Whether it’s crepes, BBQ, hotdogs, donuts, ice cream, burgers, Frose, SEASIDE’S GOT YOU. There are plenty of great restaurants too! We had brunch at The Great Southern and really enjoyed it. Bud & Alley’s and Pickle’s Burgers & Shakes are two really popular casual restaurants as well!

3. SHOP TIL’ YOU DROP

Seaside may be a small town, but it has absolutely no shortage on places to shop! So make sure to bring some spending money because you will have no problem finding a million things you will want to buy. Whether you are looking for a good read, a new outfit, some toys for the kiddos, a classic Seaside souvenir t-shirt from The Seaside Style, a giant inflatable floaty for the beach, or even some new goodies for your pup, once again, SEASIDE’S GOT YOU.

TIP: Be sure to cross the street and head to the beach side of town. This is where some of the BEST shopping is! The first time I visited we only stayed in the main town square area and thought there were only restaurants and the beach on the other side. But during my last visit I realized that is not the case! The Seaside Style has another location with completely different merchandise than the main store. Different colored t-shirts, fun swimsuits and souvenirs that the other shop didn’t have. But you really can’t skip out on the Cabana by The Seaside Style! This was my favorite place to shop in Seaside! It is right on the beach and is an open air market with cute little huts to shop in. Each one has a different theme or color story and I literally wanted to buy EVERYTHING. But I behaved and only left with a pair of $16 shades.

4. SHOP THE FARMER’S MARKET

On Saturdays you can’t miss Seaside’s farmers market! Lined up under the palm trees at the town square, you will find dozens of local vendors selling everything from local produce and fresh cut flowers to handmade jewelry to gourmet dog treats. You’ll also get to enjoy listening to some live music while you shop. Farmer’s Markets are always my favorite because I love supporting local small businesses. I’d much rather give my money to local farmers and artisans than big box corporate stores. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES!

5. GO FOR A DIP AT THE BEACH

Seaside is one of the only towns along 30A that has easy access to a public beach. Just look for the big, white, wooden tower and it’ll lead you straight to the sea. You won’t be disappointed when you set your eyes on the gorgeous emerald water and bright white sand. (Unless you visit before or after a storm then you’ll get the murky brown water that we got.)

6. EXPLORE THE BACKSTREETS

Go on a hunt and see who can find the most colorful cottage! Behind the main town square, there are multiple streets lined with gorgeous little homes and the prettiest trees. (Why are all of the trees so squiggly along 30A? Seriously, does anyone know?) Okay, I should have put this as number one on this list because it was definitely my most favorite thing to do in Seaside. Be sure to check out the gorgeous, white chapel too! (It is pictured below.)

7. VISIT THE ICONIC POST OFFICE

Buy a postcard at the bookstore next door or from one of the other shops and mail it to loved ones (or yourself) from the cutest little post office that ever was. It was built about 30 years ago in Seaside and was recently relocated to the main town square.

8. RENT A BIKE

Seaside is located right off Hwy 30A. You will find 24 miles of scenic bike/walking paths along the main highway connecting each town to the next. Visiting the towns by bike is probably the best way to get around to avoid traffic and finding parking on weekends and during peak season.

TIP: Seriously try to avoid leaving Seaside by car during peak times/days if you’re headed towards Alys/Rosemary. Turning left onto the main highway is a nightmare. There are no traffic signals so you may sit there at the stop sign with your left blinker on forever before someone let’s you out. Also, watch for pedestrians since they have the right of way and are constantly crossing the street. This is the busiest intersection on 30A, so just be aware!

9. VISIT CLAY 30A

Ok, ok. So Clay 30A is technically not IN Seaside, but it is right outside of it and is definitely worth stopping at. It is the cutest little plant nursery and gift shop. My friend and I spent almost 2 hours perusing through each greenhouse and sniffing all the flowers. We left with some of the prettiest begonias and cutest little succulents but wanted to leave with a whole lot more!

10. RELAX

Although there are so many things to do in Seaside, make sure to take some time and just chill! Find some trees and hang a hammock, find a bench and people watch, layout and soak up some sun at the beach or grab a seat at Bud & Alley’s and watch the waves crash against the shore. If you really want to relax, treat yo’ self and head to the local spa in town.

No matter what your interests are, I definitely feel like Seaside will have something for you to enjoy! So bring the whole family out and enjoy this quaint little town! Seaside definitely lives up to it’s motto, “New Town, Old Ways.”

Wow! Seaside, Florida is such a charming place to visit. I love the adorable cottages in the area as they are so colorful. Would love to stay in one of them for an overnight stay. Looks like I need to head back to Florida and explore more.

Yes! I have been going to Florida for years and somehow never went to Seaside until this year. I LOVE it! Be sure to read about Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach too! They are all just miles apart 🙂

A year ago tonight we arrived at Joshua Tree Natio A year ago tonight we arrived at Joshua Tree National Park right after sunset. We caught a glimpse of the park before the last light as we made our way to our campsite. We wouldn’t know how stunning the desert landscape truly was until the following day but boy was it a beautiful night! We spent hours stargazing, saw several shooting stars, camped under the vast desert sky and were welcomed by a beautiful sunrise over the desert mountains the next morning. This was truly a night I’ll never forget! ✨🖤

2024 was definitely a life changing one in many wa 2024 was definitely a life changing one in many ways. There were so many ups and downs. There were plenty of hard times, but also many good ones. It was filled with lots of love and travel but also plenty of anxiety and heartache. It led me to learn so much about myself. I finally decided to take control of my mental health and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I enrolled in school again to my bachelor’s degree (something I never thought I would never be able to do because of my mental health). I’ve come a long way this year but plan on working on myself even more in this year to come. It’s time to take control of my physical health, focus on self care and strengthen my friendships and relationships.

Here’s to hoping that 2025 treats everyone I know and love with kindness. And that we treat ourselves with that same kindness too. 🫶🏼 HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL! ✨

**side note: we started 2024 on the beaches of Florida last year and are ending it the same way! 🌊☀️
I can’t believe I’m just getting around to sha I can’t believe I’m just getting around to sharing a few clips from our amazing trip to Northern Arkansas in October. Life has been crazy lately!

If you’ve been here a while, you know we take an anniversary trip every October. We usually visit a new National Park (or two or three). This year we weren’t able to plan a big trip so we opted to stay close and took a roadtrip to Northern Arkansas instead. It was only about a 9 hour drive from Southeast Louisiana. We’ve visited the Hot Springs and Little Rock area many times but this was our first time exploring Northern Arkansas and it blew our minds!

We spent a few nights camping in the rooftop tent, spent a few nights in Eureka Springs at some of America’s most haunted hotels, did some hiking, explored multiple caves, enjoyed some perfect fall weather and completely fell in love with the area. I’m already excited to go back to explore more. 🍂

I’ll definitely have to share some more about our trip because Northern Arkansas truly is a hidden gem! 🖤

This past semester I got to take a Creative Photography class and it made my creative soul so happy! So here are some of my favorite shots I took this semester. I can’t wait to build out my portfolio even more 📷

I may have struggled to make a 30 second video but I sure do have more than 30 seconds of bloopers. So enjoy this video of me at 7:30 in the morning sitting in the middle of my living room trying to simply introduce myself 😩🙈🙃 let’s hope video making isn’t in my future 😬

It never fails that I always choose a hike that ha It never fails that I always choose a hike that has epic views but the trail is hella sketchy! I can’t count the times I’ve cried while hiking thinking I won’t be able to finish - but I always do! I’ve been stuck so many times just thinking “this is how I die” or “I wonder how much it’ll cost for someone to rescue me”.

Keep reading to see which trails are shown in this reel and my menty b story for each…

Lake Agnes Teahouse - Lake Louise, Alberta - the trail was completely iced over and we didn’t bring traction devices 🙃 we were slipping and sliding the whole way up the mountain. But the time I made it to the teahouse I was in tears and wondering how I was going to get down. Turns out, sliding down was the best part!

Mount Storm King - Olympic NP, Washington - this is one of the steepest hikes I’ve ever done! Past a certain point the trail is no longer maintained by the NPS and random hikers installed ropes to help you up to the summit. Of course I got stuck and was shaking with fear. This was definitely one of the sketchiest hikes I’ve ever done but the views were so worth it! 😍

Macrae Peak - Grandfather Mountain, NC - this trail consists of 9 ladders you have to climb and plenty of cliffs to scale to get to the top. I got stuck on one of the ladders and was crying and shaking and had to really push myself to keep going. It’s definitely a nightmare of a hike for anyone afraid of heights but one of the best hiking memories was making it to the top! ⛰️

What’s the sketchiest hike you’ve ever done? I need to add some new ones to my bucket list 😬
I think I have a thing for gorgeous lakes 🤩💙 I think I have a thing for gorgeous lakes 🤩💙

This photo was taken at Lake Wenatchee State Park in Leavenworth, WA this past October. We were heading back to Seattle after an amazing week exploring Mount Rainier and North Cascades National Parks and we decided to make one last stop to check out the lake. I am SO glad we decided to stop because it ended up being one of my favorite spots in all of Washington.

Because we visited in the off season it wasn’t crowded at all and it was so quiet and peaceful! The water was chilly but felt so good on my blistered feet from a week of strenuous hiking. We spent a few hours here just taking in the views and enjoying the cold water. I am definitely going to make sure I make it back here and camp out next time!

Be sure to add Lake Wenatchee to your Washington bucket list!

One of the coolest parts of my job, as a buyer for One of the coolest parts of my job, as a buyer for an outdoor retailer, is attending seasonal trade shows. Not only is it so fun to see all of the next seasons gear, I get to travel to some pretty cool places too! This year the spring trade show we attend was in Reno, NV. I got to cross off a new state (state #27!) and we got to add on a few extra days beforehand to explore the beautiful Lake Tahoe!

Here are a few notes about our trip:

📍We stayed in Incline Village, NV which was only a 45 minute drive from the Reno airport!

🚲 We rented e-bikes and enjoyed a beautiful ride along Lake Tahoe on the East Shore Trail which runs along the lake from Incline Village to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.

🛶 We didn’t get to rent kayaks, but there are so many places you can rent kayaks, canoes or paddle boards to get out on the lake and explore… next time!

☀️ Early June seemed to be the perfect time to visit! The weather was beautiful, the water was cold but refreshing and we got plenty of sunshine while we were there.

🛣️ Though Lake Tahoe is huge and spans across the state line from Nevada to California, it’s an easy drive to make the entire loop around the lake. It only takes about 3-4 hours and there are plenty of places to stop and sight see along the way!

I’m already excited about next years spring show to head back to Reno! I’m looking forward to exploring more of the area!
